Alumni and Student Spotlights

Jill Alliman

As a birth center midwife in rural Appalachia for almost 26 years, Jill Alliman has worked to improve access to care for some of the most underserved women in the US.(Read More...)

Dustin Spencer, who holds his master’s and DNP degrees from Frontier, decided the best way to better his community in rural Michigan was to better himself. (Read More...)



Laura Ballou

Laura Ballou has done it all… from caring for acute patients with appendicitis, lacerations and broken bones to providing wellness exams for adults and children… all in a remote island in the Bering Sea, where the nearest hospital is over 900 miles away. (Read More...)



Kendra Adkisson

Kathryn Schrag

The story of Tucson’s birth center, the Birth and Women’s Health Center, would not exist without the hard work and dedication of Kathryn Schrag. A Certified Nurse-Midwife and FNU faculty, Kathryn founded the birth center in 1981. The first baby was born there September 8th, 1982, and so 2012 marks thirty years of service to southern Arizona women. (Read More...)



Damara Jenkins

After contemplating medical school, Damara Jenkins stumbled upon the idea of midwifery. She discovered that midwifery fit more with her personal philosophy, and so from that point on she knew what she wanted to do… She chose to pursue a career as a Certified Nurse-Midwife. (Read More...)



Leah Atkinson

Cathi Duggan

It was Cathi Duggan’s incredible birth experience with a Frontier nurse-midwife that gave birth to her own career dream. Today, as a nurse-midwife herself, Cathi and her family serve as missionaries in rural Costa Rica, providing care to Nicaraguan refugees in an impoverished barrio. (Read More...)

Tracey Arwood

Julie McCarron

Two Frontier graduates are “living the midwifery dream in Homer, Alaska.” They are part of a small collaborative midwifery practice where the midwives handle all the obstetric care and consult and transfer care only when necessary. (Read More...)

Jeanne Parrish

As a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) providing care and treatment to victims of sexual assault in Virginia, Jeanne’s ultimate goal is to open a women’s center to empower women to take control of their lives. (Read More...)



Dorothy Stoner
