FNU faculty, alumni, students, staff and preceptors along with over 5,000 other nurse practitioners traveled to Las Vegas for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners 28th National Conference, held June 19-23 at The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo and Convention Center. The conference was the largest in AANP history and a great success.

FNU Graduates Karen Millet and Jenny Lee Mitchell Receive Nurse Practitioner of the Year Awards
FNU Graduate Karen Millett received the Maryland Nurse Practitioner of the Year award while Jenny Lee Mitchell received the Colorado Nurse Practitioner of the Year award. These awards were part of the State Award for Excellence program which recognizes a nurse practitioner in each state every year who demonstrates excellence in clinical practice. Dr. Judi Daniels, who served as faculty chair for FNU graduate Dustin Spencer’s DNP Capstone project, presented his poster titled “Pediatric Developmental Screening: Assessing the Current Status.”
Dr. Joyce Knestrick presented her poster “Health and the Natural Gas Industry: What Every NP Needs to Know.”
PRIDE Student Essay Winners Attend Conference
Two students in FNU’s PRIDE program, which focuses on increasing diversity in nursing and midwifery education, attended the AANP National Conference. The PRIDE program sponsored the essay contest and awarded Felicia Heyward, BSN, RN, CFNP Class 90, and Fawn Workman, RN CFNP Class 94 for their winning essays. PRIDE sponsored the winning students by covering their conference expenses. These PRIDE ambassadors participated in an expansive schedule of clinical activities and sessions hosted by expert faculty, attended the FNU reception, and assisted at the FNU exhibit booth. The PRIDE ambassadors will submit video diaries of their experience, so stay tuned for the videos which will be posted on the PRIDE website. FNU Exhibit Booth
The FNU exhibit booth was very busy for the three days of exhibiting at the show. Thousands of nurse practitioners visited the exhibit hall and FNU received almost 80 qualified leads for the post-master’s DNP program in the exhibit hall.

Nearly 70 Attend FNU Alumni Reception
The FNU Alumni reception united nearly 70 faculty, students, alumni, staff, preceptors and friends. Dr. Julie Marfell and Dr. Rhonda Arthur led the festivities for the evening. Frontier paid special tribute to all FNU preceptors, recognizing them with a gift during the reception. All attendees shared news of their work and any honors they have received while everyone celebrated in fellowship together.
Larry King was a keynote speak and was the featured guest at the AANP PAC reception.
